Q. Why does WebGhost ask for my administrator password?

A. The first time your run WebGhost it will ask for your administrator password. It needs this password in order to change your system's proxy configuration. WebGhost does not install any system software or make any low-level changes to your system. It only alters your network configuration.

A. Purchasing a subscription to WebGhost includes access for one full year to the private WebGhost proxy server. Unlike public proxy servers, the WebGhost proxy server provides full anonymity and privacy protection. It does not log traffic, and it is restricted to registered users of WebGhost. This prevents it from being inundated with user traffic, as is the case with many of the public proxies.

Also, with public proxy servers, security cannot be guaranteed; although public proxy servers do a great job of hiding your IP address, these servers may log your online activity for their own use and information. For these reasons, the use of the WebGhost proxy server is highly recommended.

Q. WebGhost does not seem to be working; I tried to verify the connection in the main window, but the results tell me I am not using a proxy server? Also, some of the Proxy buttons remain inactive when I am using the WebGhost Proxy.

A. When you are using the WebGhost Proxy, all Proxy buttons and dropdowns remain inactive except for the Verify button (which allows you to see what IP our secure WebGhost proxy is using for you). The dropdown remains inactive because you are using only our single private WebGhost proxy server, so there is no other proxy available. The WebGhost proxy does not require giving any Ping test information because it is always open and active to our users, with an instantaneous, or near instantaneous connection.

When you then connect to "Verify" your connection, it should give you the WebGhost IP address, hostname and, most importantly, tell you that you don't appear to be using a proxy. This simply verifies how secure the proxy is because anyone taking note of your IP imprint on their website cannot tell that you are using any type of anonymous IP proxy server...they will instead think this is your actual "real" information. There should also be no "forwarding" information because then they believe you have a direct connection to the Internet and to their website.
