Product Questions

Q. Is there an update that will make ScreenRecord compatible with Panther and Tiger?

A. Yes, please click here to update ScreenRecord to Panther and Tiger.

Q. I tried to install the Panther update but a dialog states "Update failed; incorrect version to update!"

A. Try reinstalling ScreenRecord from the CD before running the update.

Q. I recently upgraded my Mac and am having trouble recording audio with ScreenRecord. The "Record Audio" box is checked, but when I press the nearby "settings" button, nothing happens. How can I get the audio to record?

A. To fix this problem, you need to delete ScreenRecord's preference file from:

~/Library/Preferences/ScreenRecord Prefs

*NOTE: You cannot record audio from the computer--only from a microphone.

Q. When reviewing the file I recorded using ScreenRecord the movie is choppy. How can I record a smooth movie?

A. For best performance & quality use the compressor Photo-JPEG. For best capture frame-rate, capture at a smaller size and use action keys to move the capture position.

Screen capturing is a very processor intensive process; it is normal to get only 2-7 frames a second (depending on size). ScreenRecord only records with the available processing power so that your applications run smooth. When you browse the dock or move a window without pauses, the recording may be jumpy because the dock and windows are higher priority tasks that end up using more of ScreenRecord's processing power. The frame-rate of the movies is variable to the available processing power. You can speed up recording by simply recording to memory, but these movies must be very short.

Q. Is there a way to save a movie made with ScreenRecord so it doesn't take up so much space/create a file of massive size?

A. To play around with movie size, you will need to decide on compression. Movies sizes are usually big for any type of movie. Using the QuickTime format, you could lower the quality of your movie to fit a specific bit-rate you like. You may change the compressor of the AVI, or choose present settings from the export window. Turning on key frames for these types of movies will dramatically decrease the size of the movie.

MPEG-4 is a great compressor that creates small movies and works with QuickTime.

Q. Can I use ScreenRecord to record a streaming video from the internet?

A. You can record anything that is on your screen, but performance depends on your machine.

Q. How do I use ScreenRecord to stream my video to my DV camera?

A. If streaming does not work out of the box, try changing the video out settings. Be sure to set the compressor to DV-NTSC or DV-PAL, whichever is the format that your camera uses. You should also set the movie size to 720x480 for NTSC and 720x576 for PAL. If it still does not show up in your camera, then it is most likely an unsupported camera.
