faq's - MediaEdit Pro

Q. Is there an update that will make MediaEdit Pro compatible with Panther?

A. Yes, click here to update MediaEdit Pro to Panther.

Q. How can I get MediaEdit Pro to recognize my video camera?

A. If the video capture does not capture out of the box (or captures incorrectly), try deleting MediaEdit Pro's preference file from ~/Library/Preferences/MediaEdit 1.5 Prefs.

Then try to connect your camera at different times (i.e. after capture window opens or before it opens).

Q. Where can I find the picture in picture feature?

A. Open the Movie Editor and then double click on the clip you would like to edit. Once the Movie Editor is opened, you may now follow the instructions in the manual to place the movie over your clip (picture in picture).

Q. Can I convert my movie to DVD instead of QuickTime?

A. Yes, you can export your movie to any of MediaEdit Pro's supported formats, but not directly to DVD because MediaEdit Pro is not a DVD authoring software.

To export your movie to DVD, export your movie to a DV file (File->Export Movie; Choose Movie to DV Stream) and then export the movie to iDVD or DVD Studio Pro in a supported format like MPEG or QuickTime.

Q. How can I use MediaEdit Pro to create slideshows?

A. You can create slide shows in a number of ways using either Media Browser, or building a slide show movie with the Project Organizer or the Movie Editor (which displays the name of the image).

To do a quick & simple slide show with images in a folder:

1. Open the Media Browser (menu: File -> Browse...).

2. In the browser window, move to the folder containing all the images you like in your slideshow.

3. Once your images are visible in the viewer area to the right, click on the button that says slide show.

4. In the next window, you may change the caption display style of the name of the image file, or you may change other settings, such as the number of slides to show at once.

To add text (adding text is also covered within the first part of the MediaEdit Pro manual):

1. To add text, open your movie with the movie editor, or by double clicking on a clip in the Project Organizer.

2. Once there, select the segment of the movie that you would like the text to be placed over.

3. Switch to the text tool in the tool bar.

4. Drag out the area that you would like the text to be over.

5. In the next window, enter the text you would like to display, and change its size, font, color, etc. to fit your needs.

6. Press OK when ready.

7. Move your text to a position on your movie that you like.

8. Deselect the text to render the effect by clicking outside the text selection (or menu: Edit->Deselect).

Q. Can I export the videos directly to iDVD or DVD Studio Pro?

A. Yes, MediaEdit Pro will allow you to export your videos directly to iDVD and DVDStudio Pro since both of these programs support formats like MPEG and QuickTime.
