faq's - MacFonts
Q. What format are
the MacFonts in?
A. The fonts are in TrueType® format for
Macintosh®
Q. How do I install the fonts in my applications?
A. We have included a simple FontManager to manage the fonts included on the MacFonts disc.
For advanced users you will need to use a more robust font manager such as Suitcase or FontReserve.
To install the fonts on your Macintosh OS X follow these simple steps.
1. Once the CD is in the drive and on your desktop, launch the welcome window by double-clicking on the MacXware Fonts CD icon.
2. Run the included FontManager by clicking on the icon on the left side (it says "click here to start").
3. This will launch the FontManager. Now you will see two windows. The left window shows you the Fonts on the MacFonts disc.
The right Window shows you the Fonts that are already installed on your system.
4. From the left window, find a font that you would like to install and click on either the "Install Permanently" or "Activate Temporarily" buttons.
Install Permanently will keep the font installed even after a system restart.
Activate Temporarily will allow the font to be installed until the next system restart.
5. That's it! Depending on which button you click the font will either be installed you're your applications permanently or temporarily.
Q. How do I install ALL the fonts on my computer at once?
A. If you would prefer not to keep the MacFonts disc in your drive each time you want to install a font,
then you can copy the whole font folder to a location on your hard disc and use another Font Manger to manage the fonts.
You should choose this method if you are
interested in installing large amounts of fonts in one click.
Q. Can I use Suitcase to manage and Install
the fonts from MacFonts?
A. Yes, you can use Suitcase® or any other Font
Manager to manage your fonts. Keep in mind that by design,
Suitcase® handles fonts by keeping pointers to the fonts in a
database for easy access. This means that when you add font(s) to
Suitcase® from a CD-ROM it merely adds a "shortcut" to
it's database for the location of the font(s) on the MacFonts CD-ROM,
which means you will need to have the CD-ROM in the drive every time you
want to add a font (or deactivate). If you prefer not to have the
MacFonts CD-ROM in the CD drive at all times, follow these instructions
below:
Steps 8 through 12 below are the most important.
1. Place the CD-ROM in the Drive. 2. Double-click on the CD-ROM
icon on the Desktop labeled "MacXware Fonts v1". 3. Drag the entire
folder called "Fonts" to your Desktop. 4. After the copying has
completed, close the welcome screen from the CD-ROM. 5. Double-click
on the "Fonts" folder on the Desktop that you just copied over. 6.
Once this folder opens, Press the following key combinations to switch to
List View "Apple + 2" 7. This should put all the fonts in list order
sorted by Name. Click the Name header if it's not sorted by Name 8.
Scroll down till you see a Folder called "Data" (Not all CD's have this folder) 9. You MUST
DELETE this Folder by dragging it to the Trash and then Emptying
the Trash. 10. If you do not do this folder deletion, You will have
thousands of duplicate fonts in Suitcase. 11. Once this is completely
deleted, rename the this folder from "Fonts" to "MacFonts" 12. Now
drag this folder to a location on your hard drive that you want. Keep in
mind you should choose a location, that you do not plan on changing as
once you add the MacFonts folder to Suitcase®, it remembers
your MacFonts folder location. Changing this location will affect your
fonts. 13. Proceed to add fonts to Suitcase® as per
Suitcase's instructions.
Q. Can I use FontBook® from
Apple OS X® to manage and Install the fonts from
MacFonts?
A. Yes, you can use Panther® to manage your
fonts. Follow these directions to use FontBook® with
Panther.
Steps 8 through 12 below are the most important.
1. Close all open applications on your macintosh. Check the
Dock. 2. Place the CD-ROM in the Drive. 3. Double-click on
the CD-ROM icon on the Desktop labeled "MacXware Fonts v1". 4. Drag

has completed, close the welcome screen from the CD-ROM. 6.
Double-click on the "Fonts" folder on the Desktop that you just copied
over. 7. Once this folder opens, Press the following key combinations
to switch to List View "Apple + 2" 8. This should put all the fonts in
list order sorted by Name. Click the Name header if it's not sorted by
Name 9. Scroll down till you see a Folder called "Data" (Not all CD's have this folder) 10. You
MUST DELETE this Folder by dragging it to the Trash and
then Emptying the Trash. 11. If you do not do this folder deletion,
You will have thousands of duplicate fonts in Suitcase. 12. Once this
is completely deleted, rename the this folder from "Fonts" to "MacFonts"
13. Now drag this folder to a location on your hard drive that you
want. Keep in mind you should choose a location, that you do not plan on
changing as once you add the MacFonts folder to FontBook®, it
remembers your MacFonts folder location. Changing this location will
affect your fonts. 13. Double-click on your Hard Disk icon on
your desktop and open the Applications folder. 14. Double-click
on the FontBook application and FontBook should open up. 15. On
the right window pane click on the Plus sign at the bottom to add a new
collection. Name this new collection MacFonts. 16. Click on
File on the Menu at the top and click on "Add Fonts" 17. Find the
location of the MacFonts folder and click open 18. Adding 1000
Fonts is a time-consuming process and you should wait untill this process
completes. Once completed, proceed to the next step. 19.
Now in the middle window pane of FontBook, click on any 1 font and press
"Apple + A" to select all the font you just added. Once
selected, click on the Disable button at the bottom. 20. Click
